Note: The standards have roots in code produced in 1959. Therefore, the specifications have been tweaked for 50 years. As a result, there are some interesting holdovers from old technology. One of the type 10 fields (Cash Letter), overrides the type 25 fields (Check Detail). The reason for this backwards logic is rooted in practicality. The type 25 punched cards can be reused if one type 10 punched card (image cash letter), can override some data. Thus the reason for something that looks and feels backwards in the year 2010. This backwards logic has been undone with the UCD and the x9.100 type specifications.
